Why Seagulls?

A lot of people ask us where we got our name from. When we first started up we were primarily concerned with raising awareness about the amount of waste going into landfill. On a train trip to Bristol Cat passed several landfill sites and noticed the large amount of Seagulls feeding off the tips when, in her mind, they should have been soaring over the sea. Seagulls seemed like an apt name for us as, like them, we are ‘feeding’ from an unusual environment.

Paint store and kitchen
As you can see we have a lot of paint in our warehouse! It may look chaotic but we know where everything is!
We get pretty cold in our building in the winter, the pink kitchen brightens up our day and gives us some much needed psychological warmth!

Paint brush flowers, painted boots and jeans
Nothing goes to waste at Seagulls, anything that stands still for too long will be either painted or covered in mosaic tiles!
If you are interested in your jeans looking like this then come on down to Seagulls and volunteer.

Mosaics at Seagulls
We run regular mosaic classes at Seagulls and also take workshops to community groups and organisations. Additionally you can find us at the monthly mosaic arts and craft markets where for a small donation you can make your own mosaic or buy a kit to take home. As the kettle shows there is very little that cant be prettied up with a few tiles! Give us a call on 0113 2467510 if you are interested in Mosaic

Mosaic ‘penguowl’
‘shim’ the penguowl (an owl in penguin's clothing!) was made with a group from Weston Spirit – a charity offering support and activities for young people. We have all become very attached to ‘shim’and from October 07 you will be able to visit him at his new home on Hyde Park.

Stained glass window project
We have just finished 18 stained glass windows for St Stephen's school in Kirkstall, Leeds. All our volunteers worked really hard on the windows and they look fantastic in the school. The project was so successful that we are looking to run workshops in stained glass at Seagulls.

If you are interested in having windows for your building or having a go yourself give us a call on 0113 246 7510
