Volunteers
Seagulls has a strong volunteer history, having been established by volunteers. We have a holistic approach to volunteering and try to provide a well rounded experience that will enable an individual to move forward in their life. Seagulls volunteers are of all ages and come from many varied backgrounds.
Why volunteer?
People volunteer for various reasons: to get out of the house, learn something new and meet new people or just because they want to spend their time doing something worthwhile. In return we aim to provide a colourful, interesting and supportive environment for all who give their time to Seagulls. There is always a meal provided at lunchtime and we will reimburse any travelling expenses so you won't be out of pocket. Volunteering days are Monday to Friday 10am - 3pm.
What will I do?
There are various things you can get involved in at Seagulls: Paint mixing, collections, arts and crafts (mostly a summertime activity) painting and decorating, cooking lunch. We believe we all have something to learn from each other and encourage the sharing of ideas and skills.
How to get involved
It is very simple to become a volunteer, just give us a call. When we have volunteering places available, you will be invited to visit us and we will take a few details from you and give you some information about Seagulls and how we work. We will introduce you to all the staff and volunteers and show you round the building .Then arrange a suitable start day.
What Seagulls volunteers have to say
'Being part of Seagulls and the mosaic team has allowed me to develop new skills and get my confidence back, all this whilst I was trying to start a life in a foreign country. In Seagulls I have found friends and a home, they have been key for me having a job I am very proud of and I thoroughly enjoy. Today I have the chance to work with people on the peripheries of society and throughout this journey I have gained a new insight into my life. What a fantastic turn of events! To everyone in Seagulls: thanks a lot!'
Angela
'I volunteered at Seagulls during the summer. I had a really good time, I love Seagulls it's the best place and I also love the pink van. Seagulls have helped me decorate my flat and I have done it all in pink!'
Brian
'I have been with Seagulls since 6 months. I drive the pink van and collect paint from five different household waste sites. The working atmosphere is very friendly and supportive. When I was told by Vicky form Canopy that Seagulls needed a volunteer to drive their van, I was quite hesitant but when I met people in there and worked with them, I really been relieved and now I am thoroughly enjoying working here.'

'Three years on and still going strong. This past year has been a busy year with plenty of exciting projects for mosaic. It has been a challenging year for me because of health issues and once again Seagulls have eased my fears, worries and pain by being there to offer practical solutions and a shoulder to cry on, not to mention a settee to take a nap on in the afternoon! I would like to thank Angela and Toby for their constant hard work and creative input, enabling us to take on more and more exciting projects around Leeds.'
Alison
'The open resource of Seagulls provides a safe, comfortable and broad minded ethos offering the ability for volunteers to tread new ground and refresh their skills. It allowed me to re-introduce myself to a working environment at my own pace and to feel I am helping myself, others and the environment.'
