Frequently Asked Questions

Q. So I don’t need to be on a low income to buy paint?
A. No, we welcome anyone to our shop. We do try and target people who would otherwise be unable to afford to buy paint but we need lots of customers and don’t exclude people.

Q. Do you always end up making brown?
A. Unfortunately not, brown is a very popular colour and we never get enough of it. After five years of mixing paint we have become experts at knowing what colours will mix well together. Household emulsion does not work to the same principles of the colour wheel and it is surprising what colours you put together to make something decent.

Q. Does paint ever go bad and how do you know?
A. Yes. It will either be solid or still a liquid and smell like rotten eggs. The smell is awful and there is no disguising 'gone off' paint. If it is solid you can dispose of it in general waste buy it if it is a liquid it needs to be disposed off through a licensed company.

Q. Does the paint go back into the same tins?
A. Yes. We have looked into putting it into new tins came to the conclusion that this would be very wasteful. A slightly different colour in the tin won't have any effect on the new colour and will be mixed in as part of the process.

Q. What if I need more than 5 or 10 litres of paint?
A. Because our system is to decant into tins it is very rare that we ever get a decent amount of one colour. So, we use large buckets to decant anything up to 60 litres of paint, it is then mixed and put back into tins.
